Whilst waiting to review Phil Collins’ “Tomorrow is always too long” currently showing at the GoMa, I decided to give you a sneak peek at what’s happening at this years Merchant City Festival!
As always the festival is open to art and design lovers across the city and this year is no exception with Wayne Hemingway bringing an insightful talk on how design benefits our communities entitled “Generous Design”. Wayne himself, of course, is a passionate designer and a frequent face during the Merchant City Festival. His love of vintage plays a refreshing quirk in his designs, if you can’t wait and would like to have a look please refer to his fantastic work here:

Hungry for more? Then make sure to check out Edible Architecture during the festival where architects are designing some of Glasgows finest monuments in…CAKE! Just when you thought Glasgow architecture couldn’t look any more beautiful they stick some icing on it. I’ll see you there, I’ll be the one with Glasgow Cathedral shoved in my gub (y).
As the festival opens on the 25th of this month Merchant square plays host to its own craft and design fair. From 10am-9pm it will be showcasing amazing handmade goods from Glasgows top notch crafters! Including photography, jewellery and even aromatherapy!
If that’s got you feeling zen and contemplating life then you could be feeling really cheeky and pop along for lunch at the 13th Note who are hosting “try vegetarianism/veganism for a day!” A whole weekend packed with music and samples of veggie goodness.
Afterwards why not check out the goings on in Tontine Lane which during the festival is the heart of all sorts of mischief. With Heverlee Belgian Beer Cafe you can view only the best in Scottish street food whilst taking in the art installations and cinematic projections complete with performances and music. It appears to be the hangout of the weeks festivities.
I’ll be bringing snippets of the Festival before, as it happens and a closing look afterwards. It will be, as always, a brilliant experience and I urge you to go and live it!
Thanks.
